Paper Map

Level Script

The Story- In the not so distant future, humans have achieved a level of technological advancement that far surpasses the capabilities of any energy source on the planet. The solution, massive worldwide solar panels that struggle to keep up with the power hungry people. This solution is not long-term, and problems have already surfaced in the Arabian Peninsula, where massive sandstorms have made the cost for maintenance of solar panels to skyrocket. The government has decided to turn to wind energy, but this is a commodity only for the rich. Causing massive power outages in the poorer districts below, though this truth is unknown to the masses.

Scene- Arabic themed marketplace set in a sci-fi future. The main road leads to an ancient temple forbidden to all. Futuristic skyscrapers in the distance with giant wind turbines.

Time- Evening

Characters-

§ John Doe- Male Early 20’s

§ Jane Doe(Sister)- Female Early 20’s

§ Tavern Bartender- Male, Scruffy Voice, Late 50’s

§ Tavern Regular- Male, Worker, Early 40’s (Going through mid-life crisis)

(Small Cutscene) Camera fades from black to show the front of a tavern and continues to slowly zoom in on it as a conversation inside is heard.

Tavern Bartender- Hey Regular, got any power at your house yet?

Tavern Regular- Nah, still running on that damn hunk-o-junk generator. Hopefully it explodes and kills me in my sleep.

TB- Any word on when power will return?

TR- No…and those pricks “upstairs” won’t even share power with us.

TB- Yeah, just think how much those wind turbines would help around here.

TR- Baahh, I heard those turbines are just for show. The real power, is coming from a low input-high output generator, just outside the city gates. That’s why they’ve got such high security, and a fence that won’t go out if the power is out.

Camera stops zooming, camera rotates to first person view in front of the tavern

John Doe- Hmm…better check this out then.

Character can move freely (prompt with controls shows, and object like a bottle can be place in front to show how to interact)

Character travels to gate

John Doe-Well, no way of getting past this. Better find another way around. But it’s too dark out here to see anything.

Prompt shows “Find the generator near the Fountain Area and turn it on”

Character backtracks, turns on generator, and when he returns the marketplace is brightly lit. Also the sentries In front of the gate turn on. (Sentries are just cameras with guns. If the player walks into the line of sight he is warned to step away. If the player stays for longer than 10 seconds, he is shot and the game is over)

If player backs up, he mustn’t touch the view areas, sentries will shoot on site.

John Doe-Maybe one of these alleyways might lead out of the city.

Player finds loose gate with padlock.

John Doe-Hmm…bet I could find the key somewhere close by.

When the player approaches the building left of the gate, a key on the ground (slightly covered) will start to glow.

John Doe-Got it! Now to see where that alley leads me.

Player must and can only interact with gate now, gate opens, and passage way is revealed.

John Doe-Wow, it’s dark in here. Ugh and what’s that smell.

Tunnel gets brighter as he turns the corner. An old/ancient courtyard is revealed with a large energy generator in the back center of the room. Capacitors lead from main entrance to generator and conduits lead to various directions near the walls.

John Doe-Eureka!

As the player walks towards the generator, all other lights in the room dim and the lights on the generator intensify. Character speed drops by half.

If the player walks around too much before going towards the generator, a prompt shows “Better take it and leave before someone finds me here.”

Player grabs generator and the game ends. Game Win screen shows.
